closing distance & perennial | by Sarah Fannon

closing distance

I think of you between wheat fields
and painted highway marks
that bring me closer to us.

soon I will hold you like the trees
hold the ground, branches up in joy.
perennial

I return to our calm waters
and you reach for me in half-sleep,
eyes closed, a tucked-in poppy
unfurling towards the sun
