Kindled Like Bluestem we kindled like bluestem, like indigo our rhizomes firm in deepest loam mammoth tusks couldn’t unroot us we fed enamored, all athirst for lightning our true-ish selves gathered one another shapeshifter gene electric and polyploid bergamot and vervain—what are stars to aster? our goldenrod hearts loose to the wind rain we had, and storm, but lingered for flame breaking down the bend of former selves our true-ish shapes fed to deepest loam we kindled like bluestem, like indigo
