Inspired by Yu Xuanji

Behind the silk curtain, love is made.
It is steamed in green wine
and layers of skin like gauze.

Trap love between your fingers, in
thin, red sheets. It is weak.
It will not fight you.

Promised

I could and I should and
I would and I will and
you must see, you must
how nothing is ever greater ––
crueler, kinder, ruder ––
than the way you shout my name
in fear and fun and bliss,
the way you turn and wordless answer,
There is no end in this.
