Getting Over You
Whenever it rained lightly at night,
you would always wake and taste the air.
I’m going for a walk, you would say
And I would watch through the darkness
as your pale body rose from the bed and
wrapped itself in a long coat
And I would listen for the gentle
clicking of the door as you left
It’s raining tonight, on my side of town.
I am in the car, I am driving with the window down
to taste the air
Rain spatters on my trousers
I have not seen you for three months
I wonder if it is raining
where you are.
